Recently, Vivo has launched its latest Vivo V9 Youth in India.  The highlight of this phone is its dual rear camera setup and 16MP selfie camera. The company has also integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Facial Recognition technology to make Vivo V9 Youth stand out in the crowd. This phone has a direct competition with Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro. Both the phones come under the price category of Rs. 15 – 20,000. As per the design and display are concerned, both the phones come with front glass Aluminium body. The Vivo V9 Youth sports a 6.3 -inches Full HD+ (1080 x 2280 pixels) IPS LCD display with 85.2% screen-to-body ratio.  The phone looks quite beautiful with the taller 19:9 aspect ratio display.

On the other hand, Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with 5.99-inches Full HD+ (1080 x 2160 pixels) IPS LCD display with a 77.4% screen-to-body ratio. Being little smaller than V9 Youth, it has an advantage of fitting into anyone’s hand. Both the phones have similar Pixel Per Inch (~ 400 PPI) counts.

Hardware:

Vivo and Xiaomi left no stone unturned in providing the best possible hardware in their phones. Vivo V9 Youth comes with Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Chipset. It’s an octa-core processor which runs on 1.8GHz. The processor is coupled with 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage. Vivo V9 Youth also provides a dedicated SD card slot which can be used to expand storage up to 256GB.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with Snapdragon 636 chipset. It’s an octa-core processor which also runs on 1.8GHz. So, Do both the processors are the same? Though they might look same there’s a major difference. Snapdragon 636 is built on Qualcomm’s Kyro 260 architecture whereas Snapdragon 450 is based on Cortex A53. According to XDA Developers, Kyro CPU makes the processor more efficient and can provide up to 40% performance improvement.

In Redmi Note 5 Pro, the processor is coupled with 4GB/6GB LPDDR4X RAM and 64GB internal storage. In case you don’t know, LPDDR4X RAM provides smooth performance and improves power-efficiency by 30%. Here, you won’t get dedicated SD card slot and will have to rely on the Hybrid SIM slot to expand storage.

Camera:

Vivo V9 Youth comes with 12 Megapixel and 2 Megapixel Dual Rear camera setup. It also gets a 16-Megapixel selfie camera with AI enhancements. This will uses machine learning and face beautification to improve clicked images. The phone also has Dual tone LED flash at its rear which will be very helpful in during low-light photography.

Redmi Note 5 Pro is already quite popular for its amazing camera. The primary camera has 12 Megapixel sensor with f/2.2 aperture and contains large 1.25µm sized pixels. The secondary camera has 5 Megapixel sensor with f/2.0 aperture and contains 1.12µm sized pixels. Redmi Note 5 Pro also features a 20 Megapixel selfie camera having a f/2.2 aperture. Here, you will get LED flash on both the sides. Redmi Note 5 Pro also comes with Xiaomi’s Beautify 4.0 which is an AI-based technology that identifies facial features and offers thousands of natural enhancements for any face.

Battery & Other Features:

The Vivo V9 Youth runs on Android 8.1 Oreo-based Fun Touch OS 4.0.  The phone is powered by a 3260 mAH battery.  For security purposes, both V9 Youth and Redmi Note 5 Pro comes with a fingerprint sensor as well as facial recognition technology.

On the other hand, Redmi Note 5 Pro runs on Android 7.1 Nougat based MIUI9. It is powered by 4000 mAH battery which is quite big when compared to V9 Youth.

Vivo V9 Youth comes in only one variant – 4GB RAM and 32GB internal storage and priced at Rs. 18,990. It will be available in both offline and online market. The selling of phone already started via offline channels and will be available in the Vivo store, Amazon, Flipkart and Paytm Mall from 24th April ’18.

The Redmi Note 5 Pro comes in two variant – 4GB RAM and 6GB RAM. The lower variant is available at Rs. 13,999 and the high-end variant at Rs. 16,999.

Verdict:

Both the phones are trying to disrupt the market with similar specs. If you only want a good looking phone having a big sized display, you can go with Vivo V9 Youth. But if you compare both the phones on hardware, camera and Battery. Redmi Note 5 Pro will be a bit ahead. With Redmi Note 5 Pro, You just not only save money but also get the latest processor, more RAM and more Battery juice.
