Qualcomm Snapdragon 855, the flagship processor has already running high-end devices like OnePlus 7 Pro and Samsung Galaxy S10. This processor has received a lot of appreciation for its performance and features.
Qualcomm is now releasing a more powerful version of its Snapdragon 855 processor, called the Snapdragon 855 Plus. It comes with an overclocked CPU and GPU to deliver better gaming performance. As SD 855 Plus is aimed at mobile gamers, Qualcomm is calling it “best gaming processor.”

Difference Between Snapdragon 855 and 855 Plus
Since it’s not a major update, there are only a few notable changes in the processor:
- The Snapdragon 855 Plus is still a 7nm eight-core SoC but with faster CPU and GPU. The clock speed has been increased. The cores have been divided into four efficiency cores, three performance cores and a powerful Prime core.
- The ‘Prime’ CPU runs at a max clock speed up to 2.96GHz in 855 Plus in comparison to 2.84GHz in the previous SD 855.
Talking about the GPU, the Adreno 640 delivers 15% more performance as compared to Adreno 640 in 855 GPU. The clock speed is boosted from 585MHz to something in the upper 600s.
Apart from the above changes, the other high-power cores still working at the same clock speed of 2.42 GHz and the Cortex A55-based slower CPUs are still 1.8GHz in 855 Plus. There’s also no change in the X24 LTE modem in the latest processor.
Considering the performance of the new Snapdragon 855 Plus, it will probably the preferred 5G chipset by the company. However, that makes the 5G setup any different but OEMs will still have to go for the separate X50 5G modem to link it to 855 Plus. But this condition may change in future.
