After an entire year of anticipation, Apple has finally launched iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus at their ‘Far Out’ hardware launch event. Not to mention, Apple finally traded the iPhone ‘mini’ in favor of a bigger ‘plus’ variant. By doing so, Apple has clearly drawn the line between the Standard and Pro models, while only adding minor changes to the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus. In this article, we are going to discuss all upgrades and new features you can expect in iPhone 14 Series.
What Remains the Same in iPhone 14?
There’s no hiding the fact, that the overall design language of iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus remains the same as last year’s iPhone 13 series. Only this time around, the standard iPhone 14 series comes with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screen sizes, while discarding the 5.4-inch mini. And the biggest disappointment pertains, to the retention of last year’s A15 Bionic, instead of adding the A16 Bionic for non-pro models under the hood.
What’s New in iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus?
So what exactly are the latest addition to this year’s standard models? For starters, the A15 Bionic comes with a 5-core GPU on this year’s iPhone 14, which was previously included in iPhone 13 Pro. While there is no news on the actual RAM and battery, the base model is going to come with 128GB and go all up to 512GB.
The OLED panels in the Super Retina XDR Display will support 1200 nits peak brightness. Backed by Dolby Vision, the panels are going to feature a 2,000,000:1 contrast ratio. The display on iPhone 14 and 14 Plus is going to come with the protection of Apple’s Ceramic Shield.
Apple also includes an updated 12MP primary shooter (with sensor-shift OIS support) along with a 12MP ultra-wide camera. There is also going to be a 12MP TrueDepth front camera. Last but not least, both the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are going to run iOS 16 out of the box.
Pricing and Availability for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus
Currently, the starting price for iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro is set to 799 USD and 899 USD respectively. Both smartphones will come with 5 different color options including midnight, starlight, blue, purple, and (PRODUCT) RED. The pre-orders for the standard iPhone models start on September 9, while you can avail of iPhone 14 from September 16 and iPhone 14 Plus from October 7 onwards.

Future iPhone Rumors
So, that was our curated guide on everything the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus has to offer this year. For an all-screen smartphone, you might have to wait until 2024 with the launch of the iPhone 16 Pro. According to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it might be the very first device to feature an under-display face ID and front camera.
As for the next iterations of iPhones, you can expect the same dual-hole cutout similar to this year’s iPhone 14 Pro Models. Although Apple is going to make incremental changes, we are still a couple of years behind, before Apple launches a full under-display Face ID smartphone.
